Serendipity

From last month’s blog taking us to warmer climates to this month’s blog bringing us to The Mews’ hometown, the picturesque Clifton Village, Bristol. Sometimes you can’t beat a classically beautiful Wedding that shows off how breathtaking a city can be, the views that surround the Clifton suspension bridge allows you to enjoy the soaring vista of rocks and valleys and marvel at how sailing boats were rowed up the river to the Port. Lucy, a nurse from Bristol, had her perfect Wedding in Clifton.

Lucy met Dave whilst in Ibiza on a girl’s celebratory holiday. Fate has a funny way of bringing people together, sometimes you can never find love it finds you and that’s what happened here. Their traditional, graceful, Scottish themed Wedding sits perfectly along the winter tide month of February.

Lucy looked classically elegant in her Maiden dress by Suzanne Neville. Suzanne Neville is one of Britain’s leading couture designers of evening wear and Wedding dresses she is well known for her signature-structured bodices that sculpts and transform the feminine silhouette. Each of Suzanne’s dresses are hand crafted and her collections are incredibly diverse from slim fitting to full romantic gowns.

With Lucy in a silk, hand lace embroidered dress and Dave in a crail tweed kilt suit coupled with the amazing atmospheric city backdrop, its definitely a Wedding we can all enjoy!

Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is now Lucy Colquhoun. I am 28 and was born and live in Bristol, the city that I love! I am a registered nurse and I work on a manic trauma and surgical admissions ward. I also have a crazy chocolate brown spaniel who is naughty but we love him 🙂

How did you meet your Groom?
Well…. when I qualified as a nurse in 2009, the girls and I went to Ibiza to celebrate. One evening we were sat outside an ice cream parlour, a little worse for wear when I spotted Dave walking past with a group of his friends. So I discreetly pointed him out to the girls. Meanwhile one of his friends spotted me and told Dave. He came over to us and asked me if I pointed at him and why? Needless to say I hid behind a menu and wanted to table to swallow me up! I suppose the rest is history.

How did you come across The Mews?
The Mews was recommended to me by a friend from work and I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Rebecca and all the girls are amazing!

What styles were you channeling whilst dress shopping?
Traditional, elegant, lace.

Tell us about finding your perfect Wedding dress?
The moment I tried on the beautiful Suzanne Neville Maiden dress in the Mews, I fell in love with the detailed lace and gorgeous train. It just felt amazing!

When I came out from the dressing room my mum cried and I knew the dress was a keeper.

Where did your wedding day take place? Was there any themes or inspiration behind your day?
Our wedding venue was at the Avon Gorge Hotel in Clifton. We chose this venue because we have had some great times sat in the sun on the terrace and of course because of the stunning view of the suspension bridge from ceremony room. We chose to get married on the 26th February as this is the date Dave proposed to me at the Angkor Wat in Cambodia whilst we were travelling. Also it gave Dave no excuse to forget our wedding anniversary 🙂

The theme was a bit Scottish as Dave is a Colquhoun. Therefore, I picked out the navy blue in the kilt suits for the bridesmaid dresses and flowers and we had Scottish thistles for button holes.

What did he wear?
Dave wore a traditional hand made Crail tweed kilt suit, with his family Colquhoun modern tartan.

What was your favourite detail of the day?
My favourite detail was my headdress which I had custom made for me by Hermione Harbutt. It was gorgeous and so light I didn’t even feel like I had it on!

What advise would you give out to a bride to be about finding the perfect dress?
Go to the Mews and speak to Rebecca!!

Words of wedded wisdom?
Enjoy the day! Its over in a flash.
